Hendry comes with high praise from his managers Rick McGinnis and Ben Tuttle. Included in this months blog is the write up submitted on behalf of Hendry.
Hendry is the
consummate professional driver. He is
punctual, courteous, safe, and professional in dress and manner. Hendry begins each day in full uniform,
presenting the professional image demanded by Steelcase. His service record since being assigned here
can be matched by few others. When I
assign Hendry a load, I know it will be delivered professionally and there will
be one more happy end customer in the Steelcase network. Hendry always arrives prior to his scheduled
delivery time, assists in unloading his truckload of furniture, and leaves his
customer with a hand shake and a smile.
Hendry is self-reliant, but also excels as a part of the team. The success of the assigned load is always
placed above his own desires.
I can recall two of many particular events
which help to elevate Hendry to the regard in which we hold him. All of the local and national weather
stations were predicting a large snow storm throughout the northeast. Steelcase assigned us a shipment delivering
to Portsmouth, NH, directly into the heart of the storm. We had several veteran drivers who refused
(with good reason) to cover the shipment.
Hendry volunteered to deliver the load.
The predictions all came true.
The snow was wet and heavy from Maryland to Maine. Hendry arrived the next morning, with a high
profile government job site delivery,
30 minutes prior
to his appointment time. I thanked him
for his efforts that very morning, and he replied, “Don’t have to thank me. This
is my job and I know it was important to be here.” Hendry completed the delivery and drove away,
leaving a customer behind who was completely amazed with his service and
dedication. We didn’t know it at the
time, but Steelcase was competing for a multi-million dollar project that
day. There were two deliveries scheduled
the day of the storm. The Steelcase
truck arrived as scheduled, thanks to Hendry’s efforts. The Hayworth truck did not deliver that day. Steelcase was awarded the Furniture contract
at the US Department of State based on the service received that day.
The second event which comes to mind took
place just last week. The Steelcase
network is in the middle of a very large surge.
We must rely very heavily on our drivers’ performance in times like
this. Hendry had been assigned to 3
overnight layover shipments in a row.
This would be enough to exhaust the best of drivers. After completing the 3rd straight
layover, Hendry walked into the office, shook our hands (with that big
signature smile) and thanked us for the work.
This is a driver who truly enjoys his work. His friendly, out-going, helpful personality
sets him up for success before he steps foot in the truck. His work ethic leaves an incredible “wow”
factor with every customer he delivers to.
I frequently receive compliments on his performance from our end
customers.
For his section Hendry will receive a certificate of appreciation, a cash award, his photo displayed at all DCS NE Region locations and also at the wall of fame at DCS headquarters in Lowell Arkansas. Hendry will also be considered for the prestigious driver of the year along with the other monthly winners.
Congratulations Hendry!
